Quick facts: Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Shibuya is no longer the place for a street party. Instead, the big celebration has moved to Ikebukuro, while bars and clubs host costume nights across the city.
Shibuya: go, but know the rules
Shibuya is still fun in October, but the rules have changed. Since October 2024, drinking on the street around Shibuya Station has been banned from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., every night of the year. The ward also announced its 2026 Halloween measures under the slogan “Goodbye Bad Halloween”, and the message is clear: don’t come for a street party. In addition, roads around the Scramble Crossing close from the afternoon of October 31 until the next morning.
The good news is that bars, restaurants and clubs stay open, because the ban only covers public outdoor spaces. If you live in one of our Shibuya apartments, the best plan is a costume night indoors.

Ikebukuro: Tokyo’s real Halloween party
The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival runs from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1. For the first time in five years, Halloween itself falls inside the festival dates. Friday night at Sunshine City is for adults aged 18 and over only. Then the main festival takes over the Ikebukuro area on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with stage events and photography. Watching is free, and there’s a registration fee if you want to cosplay.
Our Ikebukuro apartments put you right next to it. For example, our 2LDK apartment in Ikebukuro starts from ¥450,000 per month.

Roppongi: costume nights
Prefer a night out? Clubs in Shibuya and Roppongi run costume nights on October 30 and 31. Our Roppongi apartments are within walking distance of the main nightlife streets.
Frequently asked questions
