Quick facts: Mont Blanc is a chestnut dessert, and autumn is its peak season in Tokyo. In a Japanese survey, 45% of people chose Mont Blanc as the Western-style sweet they most wanted to eat in autumn. The five spots below range from a 1930s original to limited-edition hotel creations.
1. Mont Blanc, Jiyugaoka
This is where the story begins. The shop is known as the first in Japan to sell Mont Blanc, back in 1933. The founder gave the dessert a Japanese twist by using cream infused with candied Japanese chestnuts, which creates a golden “mountain”. Moreover, the shop moved to a new home on Jiyugaoka’s Catleya-dori in February 2023, with a terrace for eating in. If you live in one of our Meguro apartments, it’s a short train ride away.
2. Waguriya, Yanaka
For the pure chestnut experience, head to Waguriya. It specialises in Japanese chestnuts, the menu is short, and it sits about five minutes on foot from Sendagi Station. Afterwards, you can wander the old streets of Yanaka.
3. Patisserie Satsuki, Hotel New Otani
The “Super Mont Blanc” here is legendary. It uses Japanese chestnuts from Kumamoto, and a pinch of sea salt from Aogashima Island lifts the chestnut flavour. It’s also an easy walk from our Akasaka apartments.
4. Shangri-La Tokyo, Marunouchi
For a view with your dessert, try the 28th-floor Lobby Lounge. Its limited Mont Blanc Parfait (¥4,180) combines candied chestnuts, pears and rum jelly. In addition, the presentation turns Halloween-themed in October.
5. The Cafe by Aman, Otemachi
Finally, Aman Tokyo’s autumn “Dessert d’Automne” assortment includes a Mont Blanc option and runs from September 14 to November 15, 2026. Both this and Shangri-La are close to our Ginza apartments.
